Evening reflection: Thursday 27 June

Home sweet home for tonight: my little tent (in a big tent pitch!) with Rocinante having a rest alongside.

I've had some fun picking places to stay. My first night was wild camping after I saw the irresistible road sign "Monk's Lane". The second campsite was reached by following a couple of lanes, some miles apart, but both called "Pilgrim's Way". I've been getting some way along the road each time then praying: any ideas Lord?

Today, just before rolling off the ferry, I opened the map and picked out a crossroads in the middle of nowhere, but in the right direction. Started heading that way and decided to keep going and see where I'd picked. When I finally came to a halt (at a crossroads in the middle of nowhere, oddly) I prayed (Any ideas Lord?),  pulled out my phone to see if there was a decent campsite within an hour or so's ride. And discovered there was one just around the corner.

So here I am in a lovely rural campsite, having paid the princely sum of £10 for my pitch (with electricity and drinking water), wifi, and croissants which are going to be delivered to the tent for breakfast in the morning!

I think I paced myself much better again today, and it's really helped. There was time to see places, time to talk with people, and still enough ground covered to keep me heading for Assisi. And, at last, I'm in another country and really enjoying the sense of movement and discovery.

And praying. So much praying, and prayer that's been enjoyable and relaxed and unforced. A journey with Christ, who also used to travel in Galilee without planned resting places or any particular itinerary, as far as I can tell. Just enjoying his company.
